While crime hotspots can vary by neighborhood, certain areas in Pickens County have seen a higher incidence of crime. According to data, the top three most crime-ridden areas include:

• Jasper, with 74 reported incidents in 2021, including larceny-theft, burglary, and DUI,

• Easley, with 46 reported incidents, including 25 larceny-theft cases,

• Ball Ground, 45 reported incidents, including 14 burglary cases

These areas have seen a significant number of property crimes, such as thefts and burglaries. The data also suggests that many crimes occur during daylight hours.

"Historically, we've seen a spike in reported incidents during summer months," notes Investigator Steve Chandle, of the Putnam County Sheriff's Department. "It's essential to stay vigilant and aware of our surroundings, especially during late-night and early-morning hours."

To combat rising crime rates, local law enforcement agencies have implemented various strategies to prevent and respond to crime.

* Enhanced community patrol programs have increased visibility in high-risk areas. By dedicating more man-hours to areas showing an increased crime trend, we have seen significant reductions in suspicious activities and have made arrests in some of these higher-incident areas. Noting exceptional sentences by the courts have major roles to play in uptake;

* The Sheriff's Office has been working extensively to educate local business owners and residents about security best practices. This includes regular town hall meetings, workshops, and advertising in pamphlets to address better solutions with good patrol.
